The Tem-Cat freshman basketball team found themselves in a ferocious battle on Friday evening with an emotion filled contest with Killeen Shoemaker at Wildcat Gym.

Temple had to overcome a 6 point fourth quarter deficit to keep their unblemished district record intact. But with a complete team defensive effort and offensive plays from Ava Anderson and Aniya Wilson down the stretch which helped Tem-Cats overcome the feisty Greywolves to win 27-26.

Alearia Westbrook led the Tem-Cats to an early 8-6 lead in the first as she tallied 6 points in the quarter. However, the Tem-Cat offense was stymied in the second quarter and only managed 4 points as Shoemaker grabbed a 19-12 lead going to the half.

Temple did little to pull closer to Shoemaker in the third and found themselves trailing 24-17 starting the fourth.

Trailing 26-18, a standout defensive performance shut down the Shoemaker offense for the remainder of the game.

Slowly the Tem-Cats chipped away at the Greywolves lead as Aniyah Wilson cut the lead to 26-25 and Ava Anderson hit the game winning for the Tem-Cats.

Temple was led in scoring by Alearia Westbrook with 11 points.

The remainder of the scoring was spread out with Cykhiah White 4 points, Ava Anderson and Alanah Johnson each with 3 points and with 2 points each were Jazale Mose, Aniyah Wilson, and Emma Flores.

Temple (6-0) will return to action on January 14th when they will host Bryan to start the second half of district at 5:00.
