KAUFMAN - The Tem-Cat basketball team returned from the holiday break with a 2-1 record and 3rd Place finish in this weekends Kaufman Tournament.
The Tem-Cats defeated Wills Point 31-18 in the trophy game and also saw Dejah Thomas and Jayla Govan be selected to the all-tournament team for their stellar play.
In the trophy game, Temple distanced themselves from Wills Point winning the second quarter 8-2 and third quarter 13-3.
Jesse Johnson had a team high 12 points while also producing 4 assist, 2 steals and 2 rebounds.
Also for Temple, Dejah Thomas had 8 points, 12 rebounds; Dawn Smith 6 points, 5 steals, 5 rebounds; Jayla Govan 3 points 2 rebounds and Paris Morris 2 points and 3 rebounds.
Temple opened play on Friday defeating Gainesville 61-26 as the Tem-Cats dominated the first quarter 25-2.
Dawn Smith scored a team high 16 points while also producing 6 rebounds, 6 steals and 4 assist.
Also for the Tem-Cats, Tierney Perkins and Paris Morris each with 7 points; Jesse Johnson, Jayla Govan with 6 points; Kendall Tate, Dejah Thomas 5 points; Maciah Morgan 3 points and with 2 points were Nalica Crathers, Kamiya Porter and JaZariah Jackson.
Temple fell to Lindale 37-29 in the semifinals as Dejah Thomas led Temple with 10 points and 13 rebounds while Tierney Perkins had 5 points; Dawn Smith and Jayla Govan 3 points and with 2 points were Kendall Tate, Jesse Johnson and Paris Morris.
Temple will return to action on January 3rd when they will travel to Harker Heights to take on the Lady Knights beginning at 1:30 pm.
