HEWITT — Temple used a 15-point swing Tuesday to turn an early fourth-quarter deficit into a district-opening win to start the week.

The Wildcats almost one-upped themselves Friday, until Hewitt Midway’s McKay Johnson stopped their comeback effort cold with one final shot.

Locked in a tied game, the senior guard ended the Panthers’ nearly 14-minute stretch without a field goal when he drove past Ramauhn Brown on the right side and created just enough space to bank home a contested layup with 1.3 seconds left to help Midway hold off Temple for a critical 39-35 District 12-6A victory that Antwon Willis finished off with a pair of free throws after Midway got the ball back when Temple’s full-court inbounds pass landed out of bounds wi...
