SALADO - The Tem-Cat basketball team went 1-1 on day two of the Salado Tournament. The Tem-Cats fell in their opener to the host team Salado but bounced back to defeat Kyle Lehman.
In game 1, the Tem-Cats fell to Salado by a score of 51-26. Temple led 9-8 after one quarter of play but could not hold the lead as the game progressed.
Temple was led by Jayla Govan with 7 points and 3 rebounds while Jesse Johnson had 6 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals.
Kendall Tate posted 4 points, 3 rebounds 2 steals; Tierney Perkins 3 points, 3 assist, 3 steals; Nalicia Crathers 3 points; Ava Machuca 2 points, 2 rebounds and Maciah Morgan with 1 point.
Game 2 saw the Tem-Cats defeat Kyle Lehman 40-32.
Temple led 14-8 after one quarter and Lehman battle back to take a 30-28 lead going to the fourth. In the fourth, Temple found their hot shooting hand and outscored Lehman 12-2 in the final quarter of play.
Jesse Johnson led the Tem-Cats with 10 points, 4 rebounds, 3 steals and a block.
Tierney Perkins chipped in 9 points, 8 steals, 4 assist; Dawn Smith 9 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assist, 2 steals; Jayla Govan 6 points, 4 rebounds, 4 steals; Kendall Tate 5 points, 2 rebounds, 2 steals and Dejah Thomas with 1 point, 8 rebounds, 4 steals and 1 block.
Temple will return to play on Saturday when they will face Gunter at 8:00 am.
