Tem-Cats drop pair on the opening day of the Salado Tournament

SALADO - The Tem-Cat basketball team did not have the outcomes they hoped for in the opening day of the Salado Tournament. Temple dropped a pair of games on Thursday as they saw their season record fall to 6-8.

In their opener against Houston Friendswood, the Temple trailed 15-10 after one quarter of play. However, the offense could only muster 4 points in next three quarters as they fell by a score of 32-22.

Dejah Thomas led the Tem-Cats in scoring with 11 points while also pulling down 11 rebounds and having 4 steals and 2 blocks.
Dawn Smith chipped in 5 points 3 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 assist; Jayla Govan 3 points, 3 steals and Ava Machuca with 3 points.

In game 2, San Saba raced out to a 29-2 lead in the first quarter and defeated the Tem-Cats 54-40.

Temple outscored the Armadillos 21-10 in the second quarter to pull closer at 39-23 at halftime, but they could get no closer.

Dejah Thomas once again scored 15 points to lead Temple while grabbing 10 rebounds and 3 steals.

Jayla Govan had 9 points on a trio of 3-pointers while Dawn Smith had 7 points6 rebounds; Tierney Perkins and Jesse Johnson 4 points and with 1 point was Kendall Tate.

Temple will return to action on Friday where they will face Salado at 8:00 am and Lehman at 11:00 am.
