Heights topples Temple: Wildcats will visit Duncanville in bi-district round

Two minutes into the second half, Temple junior safety Houston Martin returned an interception 52 yards for a touchdown that pulled the Wildcats into a 14-all tie with first-place Harker Heights. Suddenly, a share of the District 12-6A championship was within reach for Temple in Thursday night’s lightning-delayed regular-season finale at Wildcat Stadium.

However, the Knights then proved why they’re 12-6A’s best team.

Rocky Crooks had a 1-yard touchdown run in the third period and Zi’Riyan Evans punctuated his 46-carry, 260-yard outburst with a 4-yard TD with 4 minutes left as Harker Heights scored 17 unanswered points to earn a 31-14 victory over Temple.

“Harker Heights has an unbelievable offensive line, and they outplayed us tonight,” Temple head coach Scott Stewart said. “I was proud of our effort. We’ve just got to play better.
