But late in the first quarter at Leo Buckley Stadium, Flentge caught junior Champ Mayo’s pass in the left flat, cut toward the sideline and dashed in for a 14-yard touchdown, the first career TD for the second-year varsity player. He made four catches for 43 yards that night, helping the Wildcats cruise to a 48-16 victory over the Kangaroos.
Apparently, Flentge enjoyed getting into the end zone, because he visited the painted area two more times last Friday night in Temple’s 56-34 win over Bryan at Wildcat Stadium. He turned Mayo’s slant pass into a 19-yard touchdown in the first quarter for a 14-0 lead then easily snared a Mayo pass on a post route for a 29-yard TD in the third period for a 35-21 advantage. Flentge also gained 31 yards on a weaving, catch-and-run and finished with seven receptions and 106 yards, both career bests.
