KILLEEN — After absorbing a crushing 36-33 loss to Hewitt Midway one week earlier, the Temple Wildcats couldn’t have responded more strongly Friday night against old rival Killeen.
Temple’s offense exploded for four touchdowns in the first 9½ minutes to seize a 27-2 lead, and its swarming defense allowed only 4 first-half yards as the Wildcats bounced back by overwhelming the winless Kangaroos for a 48-16 District 12-6A victory at Leo Buckley Stadium.
“When you have a setback, sometimes it’s easier to refocus — especially when we made way too many mental mistakes, which you can’t do against a good football team,” Temple coach Scott Stewart said after his Wildcats improved to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in 12-6A. “We really worked hard on mindset and wanted to clean that up. It meant a lot to our kids and they had a really good week. I’m proud of them.”
Temple’s offense compiled 366 (219 passing, 147 rushing) of its 437 total yards in the first half against a struggling Killeen defense that ranks last in 12-6A.
