A first-year starter, Sauls made 15 tackles (six solo) and broke up two passes to earn the defensive MVP award for a Temple unit that allowed only two touchdowns as the Wildcats snapped a frustrating nine-game losing streak.
The 15 stops compiled by Sauls were more than twice as many as any other Temple defender — senior cornerback Lezlie Jackson and junior nickleback Houston Martin had seven tackles each — and five more than Sauls totaled as a junior.
