KILLEEN — Juniors Kylan Basinger and Eric Shelly paced Temple’s offensive outburst as the Wildcats romped to a 40-6 win over Killeen Chaparral in Thursday night’s District 12-6A finale at Searles Stadium, pushing them to the brink of their third consecutive Class 6A Division I playoff berth.

Basinger and Shelly each rushed for two first-half touchdowns, and Basinger threw second-half TD passes of 32 yards to Da’Jerion Reese and 35 yards to Leon Tolbert. Temple’s defense shut out the Bobcats in the second half.

After an 0-3 start in district, Temple (4-6) won its final three league games to finish 3-3. A home win by Copperas Cove on Thursday night in its late-starting finale against Lake Belton would give the Wildcats a postseason berth. Only a Lake win of 10 points or more at Cove would deny the Wildcats.
