KILLEEN, Texas — In a grueling District 12-6A battle on Friday evening at Chaparral High School, the Temple Tem-Cats showcased incredible grit and determination, battling back from a two-set deficit before ultimately falling to the host Bobcats in a five-set marathon (25-23, 25-22, 15-25, 18-25, 15-8).

With the result, Temple moves to 2-2 in district play, while Chaparral remains undefeated at 3-0.

Friday night marked the second consecutive five-set match for the Tem-Cats, who came off a thrilling road victory over Harker Heights on Tuesday that also went the full distance. That stamina and heart were on full display once again in Killeen.

After dropping two tight opening sets (25-23, 25-22), Temple found itself backed against the wall. Instead of folding, the Tem-Cats stormed back with high-powered offense and relentless defense, taking the third set 25-15 and controlling the fourth set 25-18 to force a deciding fifth frame. Though Chaparral managed to pull away 15-8 in the final set to secure the match, Temple’s ability to turn the tide proved that this squad possesses a tremendous amount of resiliency—solidifying their place as a serious contender in District 12-6A.

Standout Performances & Team Contributions

Leading the charge for the Tem-Cats was Kendall Tate, who delivered a monster all-around performance. Tate controlled every facet of the game, filling the stat sheet with a team-high 21 kills, 17 assists, 14 digs, 3 service aces, and 1 block.

Defensively, libero Kylie Rayas anchored the backline with an outstanding 27 digs while also setting up the offense with 7 assists. Kylie Dixon provided dynamic two-way play, recording 11 kills and 9 digs to go alongside an ace, a block, and an assist.

The playmaking duties were anchored by Madison Bond, who dished out 17 assists while adding 11 digs and 2 service aces. Emory Corley also kept the ball moving smoothly with 7 assists, 4 digs, 3 kills, and an ace.

Sidney Mayo: Served up 3 aces and picked up 10 digs in crucial defensive stands.
Aubrey Baker: Made her presence felt at the net with 2 blocks, 3 kills, and 4 digs.

Willow Pratt: Added 3 kills and 2 digs in the offensive rotation.
Gabi Barbosa: Came through with 2 kills, 1 ace, and 1 dig.

Looking Ahead

Despite the narrow setback, Temple remains right in the thick of the race for the top of the league. The Tem-Cats currently sit in 3rd place in the District 12-6A standings, trailing only Midway and Chaparral, who both share the top spot at 3-0.

Temple (2-2) will look to capitalize on home-court advantage as they return to Wildcat Gym for two pivotal district matches next week:

Tuesday: Hosting Lake Belton (1-2) at Wildcat Gym beginning at 6:00 PM.
Friday: Hosting Copperas Cove (1-3) at Wildcat Gym beginning at 5:00 PM.
