As Temple headed into overtime against San Antonio Pieper last Friday night at Wildcat Stadium, Wildcats senior cornerback A’Xavion LaTouche had played well — breaking up two passes and making six tackles — but he certainly hadn’t been perfect.

The primary responsibility for the 5-foot-11, 170-pound LaTouche was defending 6-3, 200-pound junior wide receiver Carson LaCombe, a four-star recruit with offers from Texas Tech, Baylor, LSU, Ohio State and Oklahoma.

Although LaTouche won many of their one-on-one battles throughout the evening, the speedy LaCombe got to LaTouche and Temple’s defense for nine catches totaling 182 yards, including touchdowns of 35 and 63 yards.

So when Pieper had possession on the Temple 20-yard line for the second play in OT, LaTouche fully expected quarterback Chase Lyons to throw a pass LaCombe’s way. The Warriors’ problem was that the ball also was thrown LaTouche’s way.
