TEMPLE, TX — Despite an early spark and a heroic performance in goal, the Temple Tem-Cats fell to the Bryan Lady Vikings 3-1 on Friday evening. Under the lights at the Temple Soccer Complex, the Tem-Cats showcased flashes of brilliance but ultimately couldn't withstand a persistent Bryan offense.
Early Momentum
The Tem-Cats wasted no time making their presence felt. Just six minutes into the match, Sterling Griffith found the back of the net off a clinical assist from Isa Diaz, giving Temple an immediate 1-0 lead and igniting the home crowd.
However, the Lady Vikings proved resilient. They responded swiftly, finding the equalizer at the 10-minute mark to knot the game at 1-1. Bryan’s offensive pressure continued to mount, eventually resulting in a go-ahead goal in the 28th minute. By halftime, Temple trailed 2-1.
Defensive Stand
The second half saw Temple’s defense put to the ultimate test. Bryan extended their lead to 3-1 in the 56th minute, fueled by a standout scoring effort from Audrianna Castenada, who finished the night with two goals, and Emily Rodriguez, who contributed one.
The scoreline might have been wider if not for the spectacular play of Temple keeper Skylar Licudine.
Licudine was a wall in the net, racking up 10 saves and thwarting several high-danger scoring opportunities. Her command of the box earned her Player of the Match honors.
Looking Ahead
While the loss is a tough pill to swallow, the Tem-Cats have a quick turnaround to find their rhythm. Temple will hit the road for their final away game of the season on Tuesday, March 3.
Opponent: Copperas Cove Lady Bulldawgs
Location: Bulldawg Stadium
Kickoff: 7:00 PM
The Tem-Cats will look to bring that early-match intensity to Copperas Cove as they aim to close out their road schedule with a victory.
