TEMPLE, TX — The Temple Tem-Cat junior varsity basketball team used a suffocating defensive start and a balanced scoring attack to secure a 42-29 victory over the Harker Heights Lady Knights in a District 12-6A clash at Wildcat Gym on Friday evening.
Dominant Start Sets the Tone
The Tem-Cats wasted no time establishing dominance, racing out to a commanding 19-5 lead in the first quarter. The early surge was fueled by high-pressure defense and efficient transition play, leaving the Lady Knights struggling to find their rhythm.
While the second quarter saw a defensive stalemate—with Temple scoring only 3 points to Heights' 5—the Tem-Cats maintained a comfortable double-digit cushion heading into the locker room.
Balanced Attack Seals the Result
Temple found their offensive spark again in the third quarter, pouring in 16 points to effectively put the game out of reach. Cykhiah White led the way for the Tem-Cats, finishing as the game’s high scorer with 11 points.
The scoring was a true team effort, with ten different players finding the bottom of the net:
Cykhiah White: 11 points
Elysia Cortez: 7 points
Emmy Flores: 4 points
Jazale Mose: 3 points
Jade Donoso: 3 points
Azul Ceja: 3 points
Eowyn Bristol: 3 points
Kimorah Fillmore: 3 points
Ava Anderson: 2 points
Alaina Lopez: 2 points
