HEWITT, TX - In a grit-and-grind defensive battle where every bucket was hard-earned, the Midway Pantherettes used a dominant second-half surge to pull away from the Temple Tem-Cats, securing a 44-23 victory on Tuesday night.
The contest was a tale of two halves, defined by Midway’s ability to turn defensive pressure into offensive separation during a decisive third quarter.
Game Summary
The opening frame set the tone for a physical evening. Temple struggled early to find clean looks against Midway’s length, managing only 4 points in the first quarter. However, the Tem-Cats found their footing in the second, putting up 11 points—their highest-scoring period of the night—to keep the game within striking distance at halftime, trailing 27-15.
The momentum shifted permanently after the break. Midway’s defense reached another gear in the third quarter, holding Temple to a lone field goal while racking up 12 points of their own. While the Tem-Cats' defense remained resilient, outscoring the Panthers 6-5 in the final frame, the third-quarter deficit proved too large to overcome.
