TEM-CAT FRESHMAN TAKE 1ST PLACE AT THE WACO HIGH TOURNAMENT

Tem-Cat freshman take 1st Place at the Waco High Tournament

WACO - The Temple Tem-Cat freshman basketball team capped off a perfect 3-0 week at the Waco High Tournament as they defeated Waco University by a score of 35-29 in the Championship Game of the tournament.

Temple started slow as they trailed the Lady Trojans 11-7 after one quarter of play. However, a strong second quarter saw the Tem-Cats draw even with the Lady Trojans by halftime at 17-17. Solid second half play would see the Temple pull away and claim the top trophy.

The Tem-Cats were led by Catherin Dunklin who had a team high 11 points while Kyleigh Juarez, Cristina Garza and Sha'Kyhria Freeman each had 6 points.

Also for the Tem-Cats, Saniya Blunson and Hayden Williams each had 3 points.

Following the game, Coach Taylor Sims stated “This season we have had numerous young ladies miss games due to injuries and a few others got moved up to Varsity. But, this group of young ladies continue to play with ENERGY, EFFORT, and HEART each and EVERY time they step on the floor. They have developed a CHEMISTRY and a BOND that can’t be easily broken and have put a new meaning to the WORD, FAMILY!”

1st: Temple - 7, University - 11
2nd: Temple 10, University - 6
Halftime: Temple - 17, University - 17
3rd: Temple 9, University - 5
4th: Temple 9, University - 7
Final Score: Temple 35, University - 29

Temple (11-2) will now focus on District 12-6A play as they will host Bryan on Tuesday at Wildcat Gym to open league play. Tipoff is set for 5:00 pm.
