AUSTIN – The Temple Tem-Cat freshman basketball team opened this season with a perfect 5-0 record while also winning the championship of the Austin McCallum Tournament on Saturday.
On Saturday afternoon, the Tem-Cats defeated Manor by a score of 39-23 to secure the championship trophy and complete their 4-0 run in tournament play. Aaliyah Paul was named the tournament MVP and Ja’Marea Wilson and Catherine Dunklin were each named to the All-Tournament team.
In the championship game, Aaliyah Paul led the way with 13 points while Ja’Marea Wilson and Catherlin Dunklin each had 12 points while Hayden Williams also chipped in 2 points.

Temple reached the finals on Saturday morning by defeating Austin Ann Richards by a score of 36-14. Leading the way for Temple was Aaliyah Paul with 16 points while Kyliegh Juarez and Ja’Marea Wilson each had 6 points. Also for Temple, Catherine Dunklin with 5 points and Sha’Kyhria Freeman with 3 points.

On Friday, the Tem-Cats won a pair of games over Austin Crockett and Florence to reach the semifinals.
In Game 1, Temple defeated Austin Crockett by a score of 42-10. Ja’Marea Wilson led the way with 14 points while Kyliegh Juarez and Aaliyah Paul had 8 points each. Also, for Temple, Hayden Williams had 6 points and with 2 points each were Ma’Kayla Pendelton, Lyla Shamlin and Catherine Dunklin.

Temple then defeated Florence by a score of 40-8. Ja’Marea Wilson led Temple with 17 points while Aaliyah Paul had 14 points. Also for Temple, Kyliegh Juarez with 5 points and with 2 points each were Lyla Shamlin and Sha’Kyhria Freeman.
