For the Temple Wildcats, it’s full speed ahead going into District 12-6A competition after Austin didn’t provide much of an obstacle Friday night.
Lezlie Jackson returned the opening kickoff 83 yards for a touchdown and had a 50-yard interception return for a score, O’Ryan Peoples rushed for two TDs and Champ Mayo fired two TD passes to Christian Tutson and one to Ramauhn Brown as Temple overwhelmed Austin for a 52-13 victory at Wildcat Stadium.
The Wildcats (3-1) led 9-7 after one quarter then blitzed the Maroons (2-2) for 29 consecutive points in an 8-minute span in the second period to build a 38-7 halftime lead. Temple nearly shut out Austin in the final three quarters before the Maroons scored a touchdown against backup defenders with 3 minutes remaining.
