MCGREGOR, TX — In a game where the bats were humming but the gloves were cold, the Temple Tem-Cats fell to the McGregor Lady Bulldogs 10-7 on Tuesday evening. Despite out-hitting their opponents 12 to 9, six defensive errors proved to be the undoing for Temple in a back-and-forth contest at McGregor High School.
Early Lead and Seesaw Scoring
Temple (3-4) wasted no time getting to work. In the top of the first, London Armour ignited the offense with an RBI single to put the Tem-Cats on the board first.
McGregor responded quickly, however, using a pair of singles in the bottom of the second to jump ahead 4-2.
The Tem-Cats showed their resilience in the third inning, putting up a four-spot to reclaim a 6-4 lead. The rally was fueled by:
An opportunistic run scored on a McGregor error.
A clutch, two-run double by Glory Foreman.
A run crossing the plate on a passed ball.
Pitching and Defense
Brenna Thomas took the circle for Temple, showcasing high-strikeout stuff by fanning nine batters over 4.2 innings. However, the stat line told a frustrating story; of the 10 runs charged to Thomas, only two were earned.
The Lady Bulldogs took the lead for good in the fourth inning, capitalizing on a Temple error and a sacrifice bunt by McGregor. While McGregor’s starter surrendered six runs, the Lady Bulldog defense stepped up when it mattered most, turning two crucial double plays to stifle Temple rallies.
Key Player Performances
Temple’s offense was productive from top to bottom, finishing with five extra-base hits and 12 total hits:
Madyson Combs: Led the team with three hits, including two doubles.
Glory Foreman: Went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs from the number eight spot.
Brenna Thomas: Recorded a multi-hit game with a double while striking out nine on the mound.
London Armour: Collected two hits and an RBI.
Ava Machuca: Added to the hit parade with a multi-hit performance.
Looking Ahead
The Tem-Cats won’t have long to dwell on the defensive lapses. Currently sitting at 3-4 on the season, they will look to bounce back immediately as they head to the Round Rock Westwood Tournament this Thursday for a pair of games.
