AUSTIN – The Delco Center served as the backdrop for a milestone moment in Temple athletics this past weekend. Amidst the intense competition of the Class 6A Region 4 Championships, the Temple wrestling program shattered its previous marks by advancing a school-record four wrestlers to the UIL State Meet.

The Wildcats' success wasn't limited to the mat, either. Highlighting the program's leadership, Mary Olinger was honored with a nomination for Assistant Coach of the Year, a testament to the coaching staff that guided this record-breaking squad through a grueling regional field.

Aguilar Remains Untouchable

In the boys' division, Pablo Aguilar continued his season of perfection. Competing at 144 lbs., Aguilar dominated his way to a 1st Place finish, maintaining a flawless 37-0 record. His technical prowess and composure have established him as a premier title contender heading into the state finals.

He won't be traveling to Cypress alone. Osvaldo Saravia earned his ticket with a gritty performance in the 113 lb. division, taking 3rd Place and improving his season record to 22-8. Additionally, Gavin Hogan-Cook reached the podium with a 5th Place finish at 106 lbs., securing a spot as a state alternate.

The Williams Duo Leads the Charge

The Lady Wildcats will be well-represented at the Berry Center, led by the qualifying duo of Brooklyn and Nicea Williams.

Brooklyn Williams (24-7) commanded the 155 lb. division to secure her state berth.

Nicea Williams (14-8) showcased her resilience in the 140 lb. bracket, finishing 4th Place overall to punch her ticket.

The weekend also saw strong regional appearances from Isabella Campbell (100 lb.), Destini Rodriguez (125 lb.), and Analiesa Ayala (145 lb.) on the girls' side, along with Jonas Sauceda (175 lb.) for the boys. While they fell just short of the state cut, their points and presence were vital to Temple’s historic regional showing.

Destination: Cypress

The "Temple Four" now prepare for the ultimate stage: the Berry Center in Cypress. The state championships will take place on February 13 and 14, where these athletes will look to cap off a historic season with a place on the state podium.

With an undefeated star, a veteran supporting cast, and an award-nominated coaching staff, the Wildcats are heading to the coast with all the momentum in the world.
