HARKER HEIGHTS - The Tem-Cat softball team closed out the regular season on Thursday evening with a dominating 16-4 win over Harker Heights to avenge an earlier 3-2 loss to the Lady Knights at home.
The Tem-Cats wasted little time getting on the board as a 2-out single by Brooke Knox in the first was followed by a 2-run home run off the bat of Madyson Combs to put the Tem-Cats up 2-0 after one.
Harker Heights would scratch out 2 runs in the second to tie the game at 2-2. However, the third inning saw Nani Rubio cap off a four run outburst with a 2-run double to put the Tem-Cats up 6-2. Then in the fourth, Brooke Knox extended the lead to 7-2 with an RBI single.
Harker Heights would make one more push to overcome the Tem-Cats in the fifth to make in 7-4, but that would be as close as they got.
In the sixth, the Tem-Cats would distance themselves from Heights scoring 5 runs off a Madyson Combs RBI single, Jordyn Valdez 2-run double and a Saniya Maxwell 2-run homer to extend the lead to 12-4.
Even with the game well in hand, Temple tallied four more runs in the seventh on a 2-run error and a 2 run RBI single from Kaitlin Teeters to make the final score 16-4.
Kaitlin Teeters earned the win going 4.0 innings giving up 4 run on 6 hits while Brooke Knox picked up a save going 3.0 innings zero runs on zero hits.
The Tem-Cat offense was unstoppable as they collected 18 hits in the contest. Brooke Knox had an impressive 4-5 performance at the plate with a double, 2 RBI and 2 runs scored.
Jordyn Valdez went 3-5 with a double, 2 RBI and 3 runs scored while Nani Rubio also picked up three hits going 3-4 with a double, 3 RBI and a run scored.
Also with multiple hits were Madyson Combs 2-5 with a home run, 3 RBI, 3 runs scored; Saniya Maxwell with 2-4 with a home run, 2 RBI and 2 runs scored and Kaegan Yepma 2-4 with a walk and 3 runs scored.
Closing out the hits for Temple were Lilliana Gandara 1-4, run scored and Kaitlin Teeters 1-4 with 2 RBI.
Temple closes the regular season with a record of 8-4 in district play and 13-10-1 overall. Next up for Temple with be bi district play which will be announced at a later dae.
