Temple broke out the big bats last Tuesday when it launched District 12-6A play with a hard-swinging road triumph at Killeen Shoemaker. Back home Tuesday after a bye, the Tem-Cats’ slugging ways crawled to a stop against rival Hewitt Midway at packed Tem-Cat Field, however.
Temple ran into the Pantherettes’ Peyton Phillip, a buzz-saw in the circle, and the aluminum fell silent as Phillip surrendered just two base runners over the final four innings of a complete game to pace Midway to a 9-0 victory and mark her team’s third shutout in as many league games.
The Pantherettes (11-2, 3-0) scratched out a two-run lead through the middle frames then used a five-run burst in the fifth to pull away for good. The Tem-Cats (7-7-1, 1-1), meanwhile, managed just three singles off Phillip while committing six errors seven days after securing a 14-8 outcome over Shoemaker during which they blasted three home runs.
