After Temple lost its first two games, head coach Chad President urged his team early last week to do whatever would be necessary to turn on the blue spotlight — reserved for Wildcats wins — atop Wildcat Stadium’s press box at the end of Friday night’s non-district battle with San Antonio Pieper.
Pushed to their limits, the Wildcats responded under pressure and heeded their coach’s task.
After Temple senior cornerback A’Xavion LaTouche made a sprawling interception in the end zone to thwart Pieper’s overtime possession, junior Eric Shelly charged off right tackle on the next play and dashed for a 25-yard touchdown to give the Wildcats a dramatic 55-49 victory over the Warriors, who missed a 32-yard field goal on the final play of regulation.
