Ramauhn Brown has begun his varsity football career with a highlight-reel bang. In three games played, Temple’s big-play junior wide receiver has made 13 receptions for 234 yards and three touchdowns plus a 2-point catch for the 3-1 Wildcats.
“Catching the ball and scoring is just a great feeling,” the 5-foot-10, 165-pound Brown said before practice Monday afternoon.
However, it was varsity experience from basketball that helped Brown build the competitive confidence and toughness to make those things possible on the gridiron. As a smooth-moving, sharp-shooting sophomore guard for Temple, he performed well enough to earn District 12-6A’s newcomer of the year award.
“It was good because as a sophomore on varsity, you’ve got to learn maturity and how to handle pressure. I didn’t do that very well, but as I get deeper into games it’s going to continue to build up, and I feel like it has,” Brown said. “There’s no tackling in basketball, but it’s probably the most physical sport — no pads at all.
