TEMPLE, TX — The Temple Wildcat Junior Varsity squad made a loud statement to open District 12-6A play on Thursday evening, dismantling the Killeen Shoemaker Greywolves in a doubleheader sweep at Hallford Field. The Wildcats combined for a staggering 42 runs over two games, winning the opener 16-3 before finishing the night with a 26-0 shutout.

From the first pitch, Temple’s dominance was absolute, fueled by a relentless offense and a pitching staff that surrendered a mere four hits across both contests.

Offensive Fireworks: Gonzalez Leads the Charge

The Wildcat bats were on fire from start to finish, but no one was hotter than Joseph Gonzalez. In a performance for the ages, Gonzalez went a perfect 6-for-6 at the plate across both games. His night was highlighted by a massive Grand Slam, a double, and a single, accounting for 5 RBIs.
He wasn't alone in the hit parade:

Lathan Gandera: Proved to be a double-machine, going 4-for-6 with two doubles and 3 RBIs.
John Justice: Kept the carousels moving on the basepaths, finishing 5-for-7 with a double and 2 RBIs.

Shut-Down Stuff on the Mound

While the offense provided the cushion, the Wildcat pitchers slammed the door. Preston Calderon set the tone with three solid innings, racking up 5 strikeouts and allowing only one earned run.

Zaveon Willis was equally impressive in his relief effort, stifling the Greywolves for two innings while allowing just one hit and striking out five. Joseph Gonzalez capped off his stellar night by moving from the dugout to the mound, striking out the side in his lone inning of work without allowing a single hit.

Look Ahead

The Wildcats move to 2-0 in district play with the sweep. They will look to carry this momentum through the spring break hiatus before returning to Hallford Field on March 26th. Temple is set to host the Midway Panthers in another high-stakes doubleheader, with first pitches scheduled for 5:30 PM and 7:30 PM.
