BELTON — The first-ever meeting on the gridiron between Lake Belton and Temple lived up to its hype.
In a back-and-forth battle that featured 90 points, the Wildcats clawed back to win in the first of what fans hope will be many meetings between the teams with a 49-41 victory Friday night at Tiger Field.
“We knew we needed some stops in the second half,” Temple head coach Chad President said. “We knew offensively that we were doing a good job of establishing the line of scrimmage and running the football. The wind died down a little in the second half and allowed us to throw it. We just had to execute, and we did that.”
Eric Shelly put Temple (2-6, 1-3 District 12-6A) ahead for good early in the fourth quarter with a 3-yard touchdown run that made it 42-38 with 11:27 to play.
