BELTON – Temple hasn’t had the season it hoped for, yet the Wildcats are nothing if not resilient.
Agonizing home losses to Copperas Cove and Harker Heights wrapped around a setback at Hewitt Midway left Temple at 0-3 in District 12-6A, putting the Wildcats’ backs against the wall as they strive to make a third consecutive Class 6A Division I playoff appearance.
One Friday night rivalry win got Temple’s season back on track.
Eric Shelly rushed for 204 yards and three touchdowns, Kylan Basinger threw for three TDs and ran for one and D’Andre Green made a crucial fourth-quarter interception to propel the hungry Wildcats to a thrilling 49-41 victory over Lake Belton at Tiger Field.
