TEMPLE, TX — It was a flair for the dramatic at the Temple Soccer Complex on Friday evening. Under the lights and in front of a spirited home crowd, the Temple Tem-Cat junior varsity soccer team proved that it’s not how you start, but how you finish, securing a gritty 3-2 come-from-behind victory over the visiting Killeen Lady Kangaroos.
A Test of Resilience
The match didn't start exactly as scripted for the Tem-Cats. Killeen came out aggressive, finding gaps in the defense to take an early lead. However, the momentum shifted as Temple’s midfield began to dictate the pace and refused to back down on their home turf.
The comeback was ignited by Yuridia Rodriguez, whose clinical finishing found the back of the net to keep Temple in the hunt. Her goal provided the spark the home side needed, settling the nerves and setting the stage for a second-half surge.
The Garcia Show
The night, however, belonged to Yoangelis Garcia. With the Tem-Cats trailing and pressure mounting, Garcia took over the pitch. Displaying impressive footwork and breakaway speed, she netted two goals to flip the script and put Temple ahead for good.
Her ability to find space in a crowded Killeen box and her composure under pressure earned her the undisputed title of Player of the Match.
"It was a total team effort to stay composed when we were down," the coaching staff noted after the whistle. "Yoangelis and Yuridia stepped up when we needed them most."
Looking Ahead
The Tem-Cats won't have much time to celebrate this hard-fought victory. They hit the road this coming week for a tough challenge against the Vikings.
