Tem-Cats fall to Wylie 11-4 in area-round opener

WAXAHACHIE — Temple’s first trip to the area round of the softball playoffs in three years had to wait more than an extra hour to get started Wednesday after inclement weather swept through the area, but Wylie’s bats heated up once the meeting got underway, and the Lady Pirates used a six-run sixth inning to put the Tem-Cats down 11-4 in Game 1 of their Class 6A best-of-three series.

Wylie’s (23-10) Macy Alewine hit two homers and drove in three runs and Kayla Santiago and Macey Stephenson each knocked two triples apiece to put the Lady Pirates ahead 1-0 in a series that resumes at 6:30 p.m. tonight back at Waxahachie. A third game, if needed, would be played Saturday.
