The Tem-Cat softball team pounded out 19 hits en route to a 14-7 victory over Academy in a warm up game Tuesday night at Tem-Cat Field.
The game was to be a tuneup before the Tem-Cats begin a best of three series with Duncanville on Thursday in the which the Tem-Cats will host the Lady Panthers at Tem-Cat Field beginning at 6:30 pm.
The Tem-Cats were led offensively by senior Jordyn Valdez who helped the Tem-cats overcome an early 4-2 deficit as she delivered a pair of 2-run doubles in a nine run third inning that gave the Tem-Cats a commanding 11-4 lead after three innings of play. Valdez would also deliver her third double of the night in the fifth also driving in a run.
Academy jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first on Temple starter Brooke Knox. However, Knox would settle down and hold the Lady Bees to four hits and three earned runs over 4 innings of work.
Temple started erasing the Lady Bee 3-0 lead in the second on an Ava Machuca infield single and a misplayed line drive to right field off the bat of Lilliana Gandara .
Training in the third 4-2, Temple erupted for 9 runs in the frame. Valdez would draw the Tem-Cats even with the Lady Bees with a 2 RBI double to make it 4-4.
Temple would slowly pull away from Academy with RBI singles from Ava Machuca, Glory Foreman, Kaegan Yepma, Brooke Knox to make it 8-4. A Madyson Combs bases load walk extended the lead to 9-4 and Jordyn Valdez would cap the scoring with her second 2 RBI double of the inning and carry an 11-4 lead into the fourth.
The fifth would see the two teams trade runs with Temple's run coming off the bat of Valdez once again with an RBI double to make it 12-5.
The Tem-Cats would cap off their scoring for the night in the sixth with a Kaitlyn Teeters sacrifice fly and Madyson Combs RBI single to left.
With the Tem-Cats pounding out 19 hits, seven Tem-Cats had multiple hits. Lilliana Gandara was 3-4 with 2 runs scored while Madysin Combs was 2-4, 2 RBI; Saniya Maxwell 2-4, Nani Rubio 2-3, double; Ava Machuca 2-4, 2 RBI and Glory Foreman, 2-3, RBI.
Kaegan Yepma was 1-3, RBI; Brooke Knox 1-2, RBI and Kaitlyn Teeters 1-1, RBI.
Teeters would also pitch the final three innings, giving up 2 earned runs on 3 hits.
Temple will now set their sights on Duncanville in the bi-district round of the playoffs.
Temple will host the Lady Panthers on Thursday at 6:30 and then travel to Duncanville on Friday for Game 2, also at 6:30.
A deciding game 3 will be announced at a later time.
