BUDA - The Tem-Cat softball team closed out tournament play on Saturday by going 1-1 at the Heart of Hays County Tournament.
Temple opened their day with an explosive offensive performance against Pflugerville Connally as they defeated the Lady Cougars 22-2. Their second game proved to be much tougher as they fell to Austin Bowie 6-2.
In their opener with Pflugerville Connally, Jordyn Valdez led the game off with a home run to center field and set the tone for a 16 run outburst before Connally picked up a bat.
Connally would scratch out a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning only to see Temple respond with 6 more runs in the second.
The Tem-Cats pounded out 19 hits in the game with a pair of home runs and nine doubles.
Every Tem-Cat in the lineup produced a hit with a pair collecting 3 hits and five collecting 2 hits.
Kaegan Yepma and Kaitlyn Teeters each were 3-3cwith 3 runs scored, 2 RBI and a double.
Jordyn valdez was 2-3 with a home run, double, 2 RBI, 2 runs scored; Madyson Combs 2-2, double, 4 RBI, 3 runs scored; Nani Rubio 2-3, double, home run, 3 RBI, 2 runs scored; Ava Machuca 2-2, 2 runs scored; Glory Foreman 2-4, 2 doubles, 4 RBI, run scored.
With one hit apiece were Lilliana Ganadar 1-1, double, 3 rusn scored; Saniya Maxwell 1-2, double, 2 RBI , 3 runs scored and Nalicia Crathers 1-1, 2 RBI.
Kaitlyn Teeters with 2.0 innings and gave up 1 earned run on 2 hits while striking out 4.
Game 2 saw Temple fall to Austin Bowie 6-2. Temple picked up 6 hits with Madyson Combs going 2-1 with a double and RBI while Jordyn Valdez was 1-3 with a double and run scored. Saniya Maxwell, Kaegan Yepma and Lilliana Gandara collected the remaining Tem-Cat hits.
Temple 6-6-1 will return to play on Tuesday at Killeen where they will open 12-6a play at Killeen Shoemaker beginning at 7:00 pm.
