The Wildcats’ end-of-season charge brought about a date with state-ranked Duncanville in the opening round.
Even with the rare benefit of hosting a playoff game at noisy, near-capacity Wildcat Gym on Tuesday night — and even with an ideal first half in which it matched the Panthers shot for shot — Temple was ultimately ousted by Duncanville after a lopsided third quarter that fueled a 58-33 outcome in a Class 6A bi-district matchup.
“The kids did a great job. Duncanville just got hot and made shots and we didn’t (in the third quarter). They stretched the lead a little bit, and then we kind of had to get away from what was working,” said Temple head coach Joey Martin, whose team led most of the first quarter and trailed just 25-22 at halftime before the Panthers shot 61 percent (8-of-13) in the third stanza to build an insurmountable advantage. “Then it kind of built up to a 20-point lead.
