The Tem-Cat basketball team fell to Pflugerville Weiss on Tuesday evening by a score of 42-28 at Wildcat Gym.
The Tem-Cats fell built an early 18-13 lead on the Lady Wolves sparked by a trio of 3-pointers from Dawn Smith who had a team high 15 points for the Tem-Cats. Weiss would then go on a 9-2 run and take a 23-20 lead before Maciah Morgan would answer with a short bucket at the buzzer to send the teams to halftime at 23-22 in favor of the Lady Wolves.
Ava Machuca's 3-pointer early in the third would knot the score up at 25-25. Trailing 32-30 going to the fourth, Temple's Jesse Johnson would convert a 3-point play to give the Tem-Cats a 36-34 lead midway into the fourth. However, the Lady Wolves responded to regain the lead and the Tem-Cats could not find enough buckets to keep track.
The Tem-Cats extended their lead to 23-16 in the third with Jackson sinking her second 3-pointer on the night and Dawn Smith adding 3 more points and Smith would tally five more points in the fourth as Temple would hold on for the victory.
Dawn Smith led Temple with 15 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals and 1 block .
Also for Temple, Ava Machuca sank a pair of 3-pointers for 6 points while Jesse Johnson also had 6 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Miciah Morgan had 4 points, 4 steals; Jayla Govan 4 points and Tierney Perkins with 3 points, 5 assist, 3 rebounds.
Temple (1-1) will return to action on Thursday at 1:00 PM in against Colleyville Heritage in the Colleyville Heritage Tipoff Classic.
