HEWITT, TX — The road to Austin runs through Panther Stadium this weekend as the Temple Tem-Cats and Wildcats prepare to face off against the best in the state at the Class 6A Region II Track & Field Championships.

With a trip to the UIL State Meet on the line, Temple’s elite qualifiers will need to finish in the top two of their respective events to extend their season. However, Mother Nature has already thrown a hurdle into the mix.

Weather Causes Schedule Shift

Due to expected weather conditions, officials have announced that no field events will be held on Friday, May 1. All jumping, throwing, and vaulting competitions have been pushed to Saturday.
On the track, the schedule remains fluid. While Friday’s running events are still slated to proceed, the 3200-meter run is now scheduled to begin after 3:00 PM, though an exact start time has not been locked in. Fans and athletes are advised to stay alert, as an updated official schedule is expected to be released after 1:00 PM on Friday.

Tem-Cats Primed for Saturday Surge

The Tem-Cats have a deep roster of qualifiers, most of whom will now see action on Saturday. Kaurie Holleman leads the jumping contingent in the Long Jump, entering with an impressive leap of 19’0. She is joined in the sand pits by Aniyah Brumet, who looks to make a splash in the Triple Jump.
In the rings, Ka’Myhria Freeman represents Temple in the shot put, while Cameron Evans will aim for the sky in the Pole Vault.

The distance crew will be busy as well. Maya Ramirez faces a grueling double, competing in the 1600 meters and joining teammate Analisa Terry in the 3200 meters.

Tem-Cat Qualifiers:

Kaurie Holleman: Long Jump (19’0)
Ka’Myhria Freeman: Shot Put (38’1 ¼)
Aniyah Brumet: Triple Jump (36’8 ¼)
Cameron Evans: Pole Vault (9’6)
Analisa Terry: 3200 Meters (12:02.84)
Maya Ramirez: 1600 Meters (5:30.99) & 3200 Meters (12:20.23)

Tools Represents the Wildcats

On the boys' side, Xavier Tools will be the lone representative for the Wildcats. Tools will compete in the 800-meter run on Saturday. Having posted a qualifying time of 2:00.08, he will likely need to shave a few seconds off his personal best to crack the top two in a historically fast Region II field.
