TEMPLE, TX — Behind a lightning-fast start to the second half and a disciplined defensive effort, the Temple Wildcat junior varsity white soccer team secured a hard-fought shutout victory over Killeen Shoemaker on Friday evening at the Temple Soccer Complex.
The District 12-6A contest was a tale of two halves, beginning with a defensive stalemate and ending with the Wildcats finding the clinical edge they needed to improve their standing in a competitive league race.
Breaking the Deadlock
The first 30 minutes of play saw both sides struggle to find a rhythm in the attacking third. While Temple controlled much of the possession, the Greywolves' backline remained compact, sending the teams into the halftime break locked in a 0-0 draw.
Whatever adjustments the Wildcats made during the interval paid immediate dividends. Just two minutes into the second half, Dario Luna-Lebron carved through the Shoemaker defense and delivered a precise assist to Francisco Aguirre. Aguirre wasted no time, slotting the ball home to give Temple a 1-0 lead and all the momentum they would need.
Defensive Dominance
The Wildcat defense was impenetrable throughout the night, anchored by a split-duty masterclass in goal.
Jeremiah Machuca kept the sheet clean in the first half, making several key stops to deny Shoemaker an early lead.
Gabriel Aviles took over for the final 30 minutes, ensuring the shutout remained intact as the Greywolves pressed late for an equalizer.
The combined effort earned the Wildcats their latest clean sheet of the season and a vital three points in the district standings.
Looking Ahead
With the win, Temple moves to 3-3-1 in District 12-6A play. The Wildcats will enjoy a well-earned bye this Tuesday, giving them a week to prepare for their next challenge.
Temple returns to action on Friday, February 20, for a road match in Hewitt. They are set to take on the Midway Panthers, with kickoff scheduled for 4:30 pm.
