Mavericks’ pace causes problems for Wildcats in first setback

The Temple Wildcats got their first taste of defeat in a young season, falling behind early and rarely finding their footing in a 7-0 loss to a fast Round Rock McNeil team Friday morning in the second game of the Temple Wildcat Kickoff Classic.

A pair of early goals from McNeil’s Victor Martinez set the tone for the match as his ability to find openings in the Wildcats defense proved troublesome for the tournament hosts. Temple (0-1-1) opened the match with three defenders at the back of the formation, but the pace upfront for the Mavericks (2-0-0) forced it to adapt.

“They were very aggressive up front,” Temple head coach Matt Corley said. “We were playing with three defenders at the beginning and they just took it to us and kind of forced us to change the way we played, and I don’t think we ever recover... Click here to read full article
