Ten years ago, Stewart was in his first season as Temple’s defensive coordinator for then-coach Mike Spradlin when the Wildcats beat Tullos-coached Richmond George Ranch 28-14 in the Class 5A Division I Region III final on the way to their first state championship game since 1992.
One year later, Tullos and the Longhorns avenged that loss as their juggernaut offense overtook Stewart’s defense to defeat Temple 59-46 for the regional title, culminating in a 16-0 state title campaign.
Two years ago, Tullos was in his first year at Bryan when Temple blitzed the Vikings 53-19 at Merrill Green Stadium. However, Tullos and Bryan gained revenge last Sept. 22 when they invaded Wildcat Stadium and shellacked Temple 53-25 to begin the Wildcats’ 0-6 league run in Stewart’s only non-playoff season.
