Leading 21-9 at halftime, visiting Hewitt Midway seemingly was in control of its District 12-6A showdown against Temple on Friday night at Wildcat Stadium.
After charging back to outscore the Panthers 17-0 in the third quarter and then tally the first touchdown of the fourth, the Wildcats seemingly were in total control when they owned a 33-21 advantage.
However, it was Midway — down but not out — that came up with the goods in crunch time to prevail in a back-and-forth classic.
Cash Pullin threw a 41-yard touchdown pass to Jaxson Burch early in the fourth and sophomore workhorse Landon Whisenton rushed for the go-ahead 5-yard TD with 1:15 remaining then Midway’s defense tackled O’Ryan Peoples for a 2-yard loss on fourth down to secure the Panthers’ riveting 36-33 win over the Wildcats.
