Temple, Midway set to clash in meeting between programs with close ties

A lot can change in one year’s time.

Entering their District 12-6A matchup at Wildcat Stadium last Oct. 6, Temple and Hewitt Midway had one win each.

Former Temple standout quarterback and wide receiver Chad President was the first-year offensive coordinator at Midway, whose Panthers were being guided by interim head coach Esrom Martinez after Midway ISD placed Shane Anderson on administrative leave that week.

Plagued by crucial breakdowns in all phases, Temple fell behind 24-0 in the first quarter and 34-8 by halftime in a 40-29 homecoming loss on the Wildcats’ way to a 1-9 season and a winless district record. That ignited Midway’s four-game winning streak as the resurgent Panthers shared the 12-6A championship with Harker Heights and Pflugerville Weiss before a 20-19 first-round playoff loss to Waxahachie.

One year later, plenty has changed.
