With one dominant stretch last Friday night, the Temple Wildcats showed that they’re primed to be serious contenders in the District 12-6A race.
Temple led Austin 9-7 entering the second quarter of the non-district finale at Wildcat Stadium. What followed was a blitzkrieg that displayed the Wildcats’ potential as a dangerous all-around squad.
Two minutes into the second period, senior receiver Christian Tutson caught a 27-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Champ Mayo for a 16-7 lead.
After Temple’s defense quickly stopped the Maroons, Mayo’s 21-yard pass to Tutson set up a 1-yard touchdown rush by senior O’Ryan Peoples, followed by Mayo’s 2-point toss to junior receiver Ramauhn Brown. A minute later, senior cornerback Lezlie Jackson — who returned the opening kickoff 83 yards for a touchdown — intercepted a pass at the 50-yard line and brought it back for his second TD.
