After Temple’s Ramauhn Brown caught a 33-yard touchdown pass from Champ Mayo late in the first quarter Friday night, the host Wildcats trailed Round Rock 15-14 and had every opportunity to outplay the Dragons in the final three periods and improve to 2-0.
However, a Round Rock program that hadn’t beaten Temple since 1997 refused to allow that to happen.
Fueled by quarterback Jack Appl and an increasingly stubborn defense, the Dragons produced 27 consecutive points in the second half against turnover-plagued Temple and ran away for a 42-21 victory at Wildcat Stadium.
Temple ninth-year head coach Scott Stewart delivered a vociferous postgame speech to his players after the Wildcats dropped to 1-1.
