WACO, Texas — The Temple High Junior Varsity Boys Cross Country team capped off their 2026 regular season on Thursday morning, competing against district rivals in the District 12-6A Cross Country Championships at the HOT Soccer Complex.

Although the Wildcats did not field enough runners to qualify for a team score, Temple’s quad of runners put forth strong individual efforts on the 5,000-meter course, facing off against a competitive field of 70 athletes.
Waco Midway claimed the team championship title with a top score of 38 points, led by individual runner-up Adiel Tarango (18:12.62). Killeen Chaparral finished second with 51 points, followed by Killeen Harker Heights in third with 63 points. Lake Belton's Kyan Whitmire captured the individual district championship, crossing the finish line in a winning time of 18:05.57.

Wildcats Lead the Charge

Senior Cristobal Hernandez paced the Wildcat lineup, crossing the finish line in 29th place overall with a time of 21:07.98. Fellow senior Hunter Filip Frank was close behind, securing 37th place with a clocking of 21:27.62.
Junior Christopher Glass finished third for Temple, taking 54th place in 23:37.83, while sophomore Louis Zapata rounded out the squad with a 62nd-place finish, stopping the clock at 25:24.97.

Though none of the Temple runners cracked the top-10 medal stand in the district finale, their performances highlighted a gritty end-of-season push on the Waco course.
