It’s been a difficult season overall for Temple, but the Wildcats owned fourth-quarter leads in both District 12-6A home games. In those crucial final periods at Wildcat Stadium, Temple learned the hard way that 12-6A wins are not simply handed out. They must be earned during a full 48 minutes.
After junior quarterback Kylan Basinger’s back-to-back long touchdown runs in the third quarter, the Wildcats carried a 35-21 lead over Harker Heights into the fourth last week as they sought to ignite a late-season charge toward a third straight Class 6A-I playoff berth.
However, Temple’s final four possessions ended with two turnovers on downs and two interceptions — including the go-ahead 31-yard touchdown return by Ar’Keevian Thomas with 1:46 remaining — as the Knights outscored the Wildcats 21-0 in the fourth to deal them a painful 42-35 defeat, dropping their district record to 0-3.
