Temple and Killeen Chaparral got together for a five-set thriller when the teams met last month in the first leg of league play. They matched the effort Tuesday as each jostled for playoff positioning in a crowded District 12-6A race.
The Tem-Cats saved their most cohesive set for last, jumping out to a 7-1 edge and never looking back in the decisive final frame to knock off the second-place Lady Bobcats 25-23, 25-27, 25-16, 20-25, 15-5 in their final home match of the season at Wildcat Gym.
Kendall Tate recorded two of her match-best 18 kills in the fifth set, when Willow Pratt knocked down four of her 12 kills and Madison Bond and Kylie Rayas combined for three of their 15 total assists. All four are seniors who were recognized in a post-match senior night ceremony following the victory, which avenged a mid-September loss to Chaparral (28-10, 6-3) and kept third-place Temple (22-17, 6-4) square in the middle of the league playoff race.
