Temple’s 35-28 loss to Copperas Cove in last Friday’s District 12-6A opener at Wildcat Stadium is the type of disappointing, painful defeat that could linger: close, back-and-forth and filled with mistakes.

However, the Wildcats really don’t have any time to wallow in misery or carry around emotional baggage from that setback. Only time — the next six weeks, to be exact — will tell how damaging that loss was as Temple strives to overcome it and earn its third consecutive Class 6A Division I playoff berth.

Of immediate importance for the Wildcats (1-4) is preparing for the challenge of battling Notre Dame-committed running back Lathan Whisenton and nemesis Hewitt Midway (4-1, 1-0) at 7 p.m. Friday at Panther Stadium.
