Freshman Leads the Charge as Wildcat Cross Country Battles in College Station

COLLEGE STATION — On a competitive Saturday morning, the Temple High varsity boys Cross Country team faced off against some of the region’s toughest programs at the Coach Giese Meet. Competing in a fast-paced 2-mile race, the Wildcats fought their way to a 5th-place team finish in the overall standings, paced by an outstanding top-10 individual performance from freshman Easton Williams.

Williams Shines in Top-10 Finish

As a freshman running in a high-caliber varsity field, Easton Williams delivered the performance of the morning for the Wildcats. Williams clocked an impressive 10:57.10 to capture 9th place overall, proving he can compete with the best in the region.

Following Williams, senior Roberto Borbonio Cavazos crossed the line next for Temple, securing 21st place overall with a solid time of 11:27.80. Junior Joe Vargas was not far behind, finishing 26th overall with a time of 11:32.70.

Rounding out the scoring runners for the Wildcats were senior Titus Tamez (34th place, 12:05.80) and senior Gabe De la Cruz (38th place, 12:50.20). Senior Nathaniel Bowker completed the Temple lineup, placing 40th overall with a time of 13:10.20.

Meet Highlights & Team Standings

The team title was claimed in dominant fashion by Katy Seven Lakes, who finished with a low score of 20 points after placing six of their runners in the top seven individual spots. College Station A&M Consolidated took runner-up honors with 67 points, led by individual meet champion Micah Gentry, a junior who turned in a blistering time of 10:01.71 to win the race. Humble Kingwood Park rounded out the top three teams with 80 points.

The Wildcats will look to carry their momentum forward and enjoy home-field advantage in their next competition. Temple is set to compete the Pro-Fit Invitational at the Wilson Complex on Friday, August 28. The hometown action is scheduled to begin early at 7:30 am. Local fans are encouraged to come out and support the Wildcats as they run on their home course.
