Temple, Texas — Temple ISD is proud to announce the hiring of Billy White Jr. as the next Head Boys Basketball Coach at Temple High School.
Coach White brings over two decades of experience in Texas high school athletics, along with a proven track record of building championship-caliber programs and developing student-athletes on and off the court. Most recently, he served as Head Boys Basketball Coach at Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial High School, where he led one of the premier programs in the state.
During his tenure at Veterans Memorial, Coach White compiled an impressive run of success, including:
• 2024–2025 District Champions and 5A Division I State Semifinalists with a 39-1 record
• 2025–2026 District Runner-Up and Regional Finalists (26-10)
• Multiple District Championships and deep playoff runs, including three Region IV Semifinal appearances.
• District 29-5A Coach of the Year honors in 2022, 2024, and 2025
Coach White has consistently elevated programs to new heights. He quickly transformed Veterans Memorial into a state contender, and previously rebuilt the Copperas Cove High School program, leading them to seven winning seasons, multiple playoff appearances, and the program’s first-ever playoff victory at the 5A level.
In addition to his coaching success, Coach White brings valuable leadership experience as a former principal and assistant principal in Copperas Cove ISD. His background in campus leadership reflects his commitment to academic excellence, character development, and building strong relationships within the school community.
Temple ISD Athletic Director Steve Prentiss shared his enthusiasm for the hire:

Coach White expressed his excitement about joining the Temple community:
“I’m extremely excited and honored to be the next head boys’ basketball coach at Temple High School! I know there is a rich tradition in Temple athletics, and I look forward to being a part of such a great school and community. There have been many great basketball coaches at Temple High School, some of whom I know personally, and they have been friends and mentors to me throughout my career. I am blessed to have an opportunity to lead the Wildcat basketball program and plan to build on the foundation that has been established by the many great former coaches and student-athletes. I have always admired the grit and toughness that Temple ISD’s student-athletes displayed, and I look forward to having the opportunity to work with and share the same sideline as them.”
