TEMPLE, TX — The Temple Tem-Cat junior varsity track and field team put on a show for the home crowd this week, claiming a hard-fought 2nd Place finish at the District 12-6A Track & Field Championships held at Wildcat Stadium.
Under the lights on April 9-10, the Tem-Cats showcased their depth and season-long improvement by tallying 129 points. While Hewitt Midway took the top spot with 183 points, Temple’s consistent performance allowed them to hold off Killeen, who finished 3rd with 115 points.
The meet began with preliminary rounds on April 8, where the top eight finishers in each event earned their ticket to the finals. From there, the Tem-Cats surged, collecting multiple medals across sprints, distance, and field events to solidify their standing as one of the premier programs in the district.
Championship Medalists & Top Performers
The Tem-Cats’ runner-up finish was fueled by a collection of gold, silver, and bronze performances.
Gold Medalists:
Cykhiah White: District Champion in the High Jump, clearing 4’10.
4x100 Relay Team: The quartet of Maliyah Caldwell, Lilyian Wilkerson, Azaylea Peoples, and Jazmine Locklear dominated the field with a first-place time of 50.11.
Silver Medalists:
Ilana Desales: A distance standout, earning silver in both the 800 meters (2:35.17) and the 1600 meters (6:05.82).
Jazmine Locklear: Sprinted to 2nd place in a highly competitive 200-meter final (26.83).
4x200 Relay Team: Jaahmya Bethel, Lilyian Wilkerson, Jazmine Locklear, and Aniyah Wilson took 2nd with a time of 1:29.35.
Bronze Medalists:
Sydney Mayo: Secured the bronze in the 400 meters (1:02.76).
Ilana Desales: Added a third medal to her haul with a 3rd place finish in the 3200 meters (13:25.12).
Sterling Griffith: Powered through the 800 meters to take 3rd (2:35.31).
Aniyah Wilson: Showed great versatility with a 3rd place finish in the High Jump (4’8).
Kimorah Fillmore: Earned her bronze in the Shot Put with a toss of 30’4.
4x400 Relay Team: The team of Jayde Williams, Sydney Mayo, Cykhiah White, and Aniyah Wilson closed the meet with a 3rd place finish (4:23.20).
