KILLEEN, TX – The Temple Tem-Cats found themselves in an early hole on Friday night, struggling to find their rhythm in a 9-2 District 12-6A loss to the Killeen Shoemaker Grey Wolves. Despite a resilient multi-hit performance from the top of the order, Temple couldn't overcome a surging Shoemaker offense and a handful of costly defensive miscues.

Early Struggles Set the Tone

The Grey Wolves wasted no time establishing dominance in the bottom of the first inning. After Temple surrendered two runs on a double down the left field line by Yanimarie Nieves-Irizarry, a defensive error allowed two more runs to cross the plate, quickly putting the Tem-Cats in a 4-0 deficit.

Temple managed to get on the board, but Shoemaker kept the pressure on. In the third inning, Zahnae Baagley executed a perfect sacrifice bunt to extend the Grey Wolves' lead to 5-1.

Duel in the Circle

Brenna Thomas started for Temple, striking out two over one inning of work. London Armour took over in relief, putting in a gritty five-inning shift. Armour struck out four and allowed only three earned runs, keeping the Tem-Cats within striking distance for much of the middle frames.

However, Shoemaker’s Kale Clawson proved to be a formidable opponent. Clawson pitched a complete seven-inning game, surrendering just one earned run while racking up seven strikeouts and walking none.

Offensive Highlights

While the scoreboard was lopsided, the Tem-Cats' bats showed flashes of brilliance:

Madyson Combs was a force at the plate, going 3-for-4 and driving in a run.
London Armour helped her own cause in the lineup, also collecting an RBI.
Sha’kyhria Freeman stayed hot, going 2-for-4 with a double.
Glory Foreman added a double of her own in a 1-for-3 effort.
Shoemaker’s offense was led by Skylar Montgomery, who went 3-for-4, and multi-RBI nights from Taylor McClinton and Nieves-Irizarry.

Looking Ahead

The Tem-Cats (District 12-6A) will head into a well-deserved bye this coming Tuesday to regroup. They will return to their home turf for a high-stakes matchup later next week.
