KILLEEN – In a concentrated burst of speed and endurance, the Temple Tem-Cat freshman track and field team claimed the top spot on the podium Thursday at the Killeen ISD Relays. In a meet specifically designed to test the depth of relay squads and the grit of long-distance runners, the Tem-Cats demonstrated they are the team to beat as the post-season approaches.
Temple secured a 1st Place team finish, racking up 64 points at Leo Buckley Stadium. They narrowly edged out second-place Harker Heights (60 points) and outpaced third-place Killeen (40 points) in a competitive field.
Relay Dominance
The Tem-Cats swept the relay events, showcasing flawless transitions and elite sprinting. The quartet of Saniya Blunson, Destiny Smith, Ashlea Hickey, and Sha'khyria Freeman set the tone early, taking gold in the 4x100 Relay with a swift time of 53.01.
The momentum continued into the 4x200 Relay, where Saniya Blunson, Ashlea Hickey, Snisia Williams, and Destiny Smith crossed the finish line in 1:54.00 to secure another 1st Place finish. To cap off the relay sweep, the 4x400 Relay team consisting of Desiree Tools, J'Viana Jackson, Abreanna Jarrett, and Sha'khyria Freeman dominated the track with a time of 4:37.65.
Distance and Endurance
On the individual side, Bella Sahm represented the Tem-Cats in the grueling 3200-meter run. Sahm pushed through the eight-lap race to earn a 4th Place finish, clocking in at 14:47.29 and contributing vital points to the team's overall victory.
